INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Brenna Shepherd, General Manager at Rojas Roofing, debunked common roofing myths during a recent segment, highlighting the importance of choosing the right roofing materials and contractors.
Shepherd explained that while metal roofs are more expensive than asphalt roofs, they offer greater longevity and aesthetic appeal, making them a popular choice over the past decade.
Shepherd revealed that there are more roofing companies in the U.S. than Starbucks stores, underscoring the demand for roofing services given the number of homes compared to coffee shops. She also clarified that asphalt roofs should not be installed in temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, as colder conditions can cause the material to crack and become brittle.
Homeowners have the freedom to choose their own roofing contractor, even if their insurance is covering the cost, Shepherd confirmed. Insurance companies may have preferred contractors, but there is no obligation to use them.
Shepherd pointed out that 95% of roofing companies fail within five years, likening the industry to the restaurant business in terms of turnover. She advised selecting a local company with a solid track record.
In Indiana, licensing requirements for roofing contractors vary by municipality. For instance, Marion County requires a contracting license and a test, but other areas may not have such requirements.
Rojas Roofing, with over a decade of experience, assures customers of reliable service and a 15-year labor warranty, allowing homeowners to “roof with confidence.”
